Q. Does bread make a good bait?
— cj
A. Actually, bread is a great bait for fish like catfish, suckers, and carp. Many anglers use “dough balls,” which is simply rolling bread into a ball around a hook and fishing it under a bobber or on the bottom. While some people add scents like anise and vanilla to the bread to make it more attractive, plain old bread often works great. Experiment with different scents and maybe you can create your own “secret sauce” to catch the big ones.

Does bread break up in the water?
If you pack the bread tightly it won’t, but if you keep recasting it will likely come off after a couple casts.
It doesn’t usually, unless left for a while
⁸yes you roll it up in a ball don’t wet it
At a pond I fish, people throw bread in the water to the ducks, but the carp, schools of baby bass, and bluegill eat leftover bread which makes it easy to catch them.
I got a couple foot long suckers with bread
