What Color Fishing Lure?

lure-300Q. What colors do fish like on a lure?

A. Most gamefish eat small minnows and other baitfish, which are mostly either silver or white. Therefore, lures that swim through the water (like spinners, topwaters, or crankbaits) with chrome or white color schemes typically work very well all across the country.

  1. I have had moderate success by fishing with lures in bright colors (chrome, chartreuse, fire tiger, etc.) on bright, sunny days and by using lures with darker colors (purple, motor oil, crawfish, etc.) on the darker, overcast and cloudy days.

  2. I saw an article about how bass can only see red and green and lures with contrasting colors are more appealing to bass but– how do black and blue baits work when bass can’t see blue?
